Calle Montera is a central street in the middle of Madrid’s city centre, a very crowded and underrated street. In this unexpected place we find a beautiful oasis, it’s a garden in the terrace of a store, in this case, Salvador Bachiller. I’ve decided to show you this place because of its charm and ambiance, and for the intention it has to be an unexpected venue with a bucolic touch in a grey street as Montera.
If there is a word we could use to describe this place I would be green, because of the delicate garden that provides shadow and shelters, with seating spaces that are inviting and joyful. Each corner has been carefully designed to be unforgettable. In short the garden is a unique space to relax while exploring Madrid. And if it is too hot or too crowded you have the option of going to the Salón de Té, an elegant and quiet room just a floor below. It may not be as green and bucolic, but it is comfortable and classic.
After visiting a couple of times just because I could not believe there was such a place in Montera, I’ve come to conclude a number of things. The first one is that Jardín Secreto is place you must go if you one to have a couple of drinks with friends (the mojito it’s pretty decent), the second one is that it has an unfortunate 5 euro consumition rule, that rules out a more flexible Café or Tea plan. Definitely something unnecessary, if you bear in mind the already elevated prices in the menu.
In a nutshell, Jardín Secreto is a pretty beautiful place, even if it is just to drop by and see it for yourself. The service is disappointing at times, but at the same the place it has a thing, a je ne sais quoi that would force you to give it a second chance. Maybe a just wasn’t lucky enough.
